Threads of Knowledge Origin Story
Being the youngest child, I spent much of my young life quietly observing the world around me. One pattern that always stood out was how powerfully clothing can shape the moments and connections between people.
When someone wears a shirt promoting a sports team, a favorite film, or a beloved musician, it often acts as a gentle invitation. Strangers light up, striking up conversations about games or lyrics, and before long, they’re sharing pieces of themselves. What begins as a “safe” common interest quietly opens the door to something deeper, a genuine human connection.
This simple observation really impacted me. Years later, as I imagined the potential of Threads of Knowledge, I wondered: What if the same magic could happen with ideas that have always meant so much to me? What if there exists a quiet but noble audience of people who, like me, find profound beauty and guidance in philosophy, psychology, science, spirituality, art, and the wisdom of those who have shaped our civilization?
In college, I was captivated by the works of Carl Jung, Socrates, Lao Tzu, Marcus Aurelius, and Leonardo da Vinci. Their insights filled me with awe. I remember thinking: If humanity truly embodied these principles of understanding over judgment, collaboration over conflict, and love extending beyond the self, how different our world might be. No more needless wars. Far less suffering. Instead, a shared recognition of how extraordinary this existence truly is.
Yet in my introductory philosophy class, a disillusioned professor warned us, “Don’t waste your time with philosophy, you’ll never make any money.” Young and foolish, I believed him. I set aside any serious pursuit of philosophy and kept these ancient masters as beloved companions rather than guides for a larger path. Philosophy became a quiet hobby, something that nourished me privately.
Twenty years later after experiencing careers in IT and materials science, life offered me a profound pause. After being laid off during the pandemic, I chose not to rush back into the familiar. Instead, I turned inward. I asked myself: “what truly matters, who have I become, and what kind of life do I want to create moving forward?”
In that season of reflection, I began exploring artistic skills: drawing, painting, and working with design software. I started simply, playing with quotes from Socrates and Alan Watts. As my skills grew, so did my joy in the process. I printed dozens of quotes and covered my apartment walls with them. They became daily companions, inviting deeper thought, quiet reflection, and ultimately, a clearer sense of who I am at my core.
When I ran out of wall space, a new idea came to mind: What if these words could travel with us, worn close to the heart? That question gave birth to Threads of Knowledge.
I began creating prototype T-shirts and wearing them around town. The response surprised and humbled me. People offered smiles, thumbs-ups, and most beautifully, stopped for genuine conversations. Some discussions lasted thirty minutes and centered on how we might improve ourselves and our world. In those moments, I felt a sense of fulfillment I had never known in any previous role.
Today, I feel a clear calling. My purpose is to share what has transformed my own life: the illuminating power of philosophy, psychology, science, spirituality, history, art, and the timeless perspectives that remind us how deeply connected we all are.
Through Threads of Knowledge, I hope to introduce more people to the extraordinary ideas and lives of the paragons who have cared for civilization’s highest ideals. Above all, I want to invite others to discover what becomes possible when we truly choose to know ourselves.
The work our team is doing matters deeply to us. We aspire to spark inspiration in as many hearts as possible, to nurture connections that grow into caring communities, and to gently elevate our collective consciousness.
