Nikola Tesla
VISIONARY OF ENERGY
Nikola Tesla (July 10, 1856 – January 7, 1943) was a Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, and futurist who revolutionized the modern world through his pioneering work on alternating current (AC) electricity. Born in Smiljan, in what is now Croatia, to a Serbian Orthodox priest father and inventive mother, Tesla displayed extraordinary intelligence early on, memorizing books and inventing small devices as a child. After studying engineering in Graz and Prague, he worked briefly for Thomas Edison in Paris and New York but soon parted ways over disagreements about AC versus DC power systems. Tesla's development of the AC induction motor, polyphase AC transmission, and transformers made long-distance, efficient electricity distribution possible, ultimately winning the "War of the Currents" and powering the modern electrical grid.
Tesla's genius extended far beyond AC power: he invented the Tesla coil, contributed to wireless communication concepts (predating radio), experimented with X-rays, neon lighting, and remote control, and dreamed of wireless global energy transmission through projects like Wardenclyffe Tower. Despite holding hundreds of patents and achieving fame in his prime (including Niagara Falls power plant success), financial struggles, eccentric habits, and conflicts with investors led to poverty in his later years. He died alone in New York at age 86, but his visionary ideas—on renewable energy, wireless tech, and human potential—continue to inspire scientists, engineers, and innovators, cementing his legacy as one of history's most brilliant and underappreciated minds.
BADGE
Secrets of the Universe
Nikola Tesla—a man centuries beyond his time—was a creator of the “impossible” and an innovator of the improbable. His brilliance is honored in the Secrets of the Universe badge. The shape of the badge is inspired by the turbines Tesla created. On the inner border, the words “energy, frequency, vibration” extend his most famous quote, which glows on the inner ring of light. Plasma ignites the entire design, illuminating Tesla’s many inventions that surround him. As an homage to his arc lamps, the “I” in “Nikola” has been replaced by one of his specialized vacuum bulbs.
Several lesser-known details are woven throughout as well: the secret “3, 6, 9” code with its geometric connections sits behind his portrait, while the “heart” frequency of 432 Hz appears to the left. Tesla’s profound quotes encircle the borders like living currents. A profound thinker and great contributor to the technology we use every day, Nikola Tesla gave the modern world extraordinary innovations that have improved life for people everywhere. For this, we owe him deep and lasting gratitude.
Notable badge elements:
The badge shape, inspired by the turbines designed/created by Tesla
Inner border featuring the words “energy,” “frequency,” and “vibration,” extending Tesla’s most famous quote (located on the inner ring of light)
Plasma illuminating the badge, highlighting Tesla’s many inventions surrounding him
The “I” in “Nikola” Tesla’s specialized vacuum bulbs, as an homage to his arc lamps
Secret “3,6,9” code (with its geometric connections) positioned behind Tesla’s portrait
432 Hz frequency, referred to as the “heart” frequency, located behind Tesla
The overall theme portrays Tesla as a profound thinker and major contributor to modern technology, and deserving of our gratitude for his extraordinary innovations that have improved lives around the world.
